Celebrate?

So, mom, since this is our first year celebrating Halloween, what exactly are we celebrating?

Isaac is full of thought provoking questions...they usually come when I haven't given such a thing much thought...what exactly do we "celebrate" at Halloween. My thoughts are still forming on this one. It is definetely not a holiday that traditionally honors God, but there are things that can be done that do honor the Lord.

What did we do...well, we went to a local church and participated in their light night carnival. It was great fun and the black light show praising the Lord was especially cool. Fun was had by all.

Wendy;

I have thoughly enjoyed reading some of your posts.

We do not nearly as often as we should, but when we do it is always so wonderful getting to know you and your family better.

I was a bit saddened when you told me this morning that you would be moving soon. But moving to be nearer to family is always a good thing. So, I truely am happy for you and will certainly put your move, selling the house and your family's transition to the Floridian life on our prayer list.

I have a suggestion for your *halloween celebration* delema: We had done the typical halloween activities for a number of years -- trick-or-treating and then trasitioned to the "harvest festivals" that local churches put on. Then a friend shared with me (I have not reserched myself too much -- I certainly NEED to) that halloween started as a wicken (wichcracft) responce to the Catholic celebration of All Saints Day on Nov. 1st. "All Holy Evening" became shortened to "Hallows Eve" and to the now "halloween". This was a particularly evil (I do not want to go into much detail as I do not want little eyes to read over a shoulder--I would be happy to share with you what info I have) occurance.

It was Oct. 31st, 1517 that Matin Luther nailed his 95 thesis to the (Luttenberg?) German Catholic church door. So, this year we decided to celebrate "Reformation Day", for Luther's ideas and actions truely did reform Christianity. We are still in the process of discovering how this *celebration* will be brought to life in our family. I would be happy to share with you ideas on this. (PLEASE do not feel that I am telling you how you should do things. And I certainly am passing NO judgement. This is one of those grey areas that I do NOT have the answer to. I am just trying to offer an answer for your fella that had asked "What was so special about this day to celebrate it?")
